Visit several different types of nursing and convalescent homes and facilities, such as adult day programs in community centers and hospitals, as well as live-in homes and rehab day care centers. Meet with healthcare consultants to learn more. Check out the environment carefully and ask yourself if this is somewhere you, the caretaker or caregiver, would like to live or visit. If not, move on. In your tours of various adult and elder care facilities, make a checklist of each facility’s good points and bad points, affordable rates and prices, healthcare insurance and government-assisted coverage, medication, health and wellness programs, professional background, eligibility, programs available, features, activities, personal and medical care, recreation areas, classes, meals, games, transportation, lifestyle assistance services, therapeutic programs, and atmosphere. Also, take a close look at other senior and adult residents or day patients. Do they appear happy and well cared for?
